Outside of these fixed dates the cattle run on a combination of deeded ground along with BLM and state leases. The Pitchfork is also home to the purest strain of Yellowstone cutthroat trout found in the US. The Greybull River and its tributaries provide some of the best fishing in the state for the Yellowstone cutthroat, along with a healthy population of mountain whitefish.
